What to know
- The City of Toronto is calling on artists to submit work for its 2027 exhibition season across multiple cultural venues, including the Ascent Gallery.
- Toronto-based, equity-deserving and early-career artists aged 18 and older are encouraged to apply, with submissions requiring an application form, CV and 15 original works with descriptions.
- Applications are free to submit, though selected artists must pay an exhibition fee, and the deadline for the Ascent Gallery is May 17 at 11:59 p.m., with additional calls open for venues like the Assembly Hall Gallery, Cedar Ridge Creative Centre and Clark Centre for the Arts.
Artists looking to submit their work can look no further than the City of Toronto, as they look for pieces to display for the 2027 season.
The city is looking for submissions for multiple cultural locations.
The Ascent Gallery is one of about 9 locations artists can submit their work.
Artists who are early in their career and/or are part of a group, who are Toronto-based and/or identify as equity-deserving are welcome to submit. The city said early career artists who are at least 18-years-old, have a small body of work and have achieved some local recognition through grants, commissions, sales and/or public exhibition experience are also invited to submit.
The city did not specify which art mediums are preferred but said “staff… strives to present a balanced roster of exhibitions in all media and styles.”
A submission for the Ascent Gallery must include a completed application form, 15 original works along with descriptions and a CV.
There is no fee to apply but artists will be expected to pay an exhibition fee if selected, based on the number of works they will display.
All works submitted must adhere to the City of Toronto Human Rights and Anti-Harassment/Discrimination Policy and be suitable for a general audience.
The deadline to submit for the Ascent Gallery is May 17 at 11:59 p.m.
The city is also asking for submissions to the Assembly Hall Gallery, Cedar Ridge Creative Centre and the Clark Centre for the Arts among others.
