Rare David Hockney artwork expected to fetch up to £10,000
“Bolton Junction Eccleshill, Bradford,” a mixed media piece created by Hockney at 19, is expected to sell for between £7,000 and £10,000 on June 13.
The artwork was bought by Malcolm Riley, a tutor at Bradford Regional College of Art, at an end-of-year show.
The auction will also feature two drawings by L.S. Lowry, including “Figures on a Street,” estimated at £8,000-£12,000, and “Street Scene with Children and Dogs,” estimated at £7,000-£10,000.
A selection of works by mining artist Norman Cornish will also be up for auction.
This collection includes “Miner’s Going to Work,” estimated at £2,000-£3,000, and “The Artist’s Father, Sitting in a Chair,” estimated at £800-£1,200.
The sale will include ceramics by Pablo Picasso, such as Wood-Owl, an ‘Edition Picasso’ owl-form jug, estimated at £3,000-£5,000, and Tête Polychrome, an ‘Edition Picasso’ painted plaque, estimated at £2,500-£4,000.
Other notable lots include “Heart Spin” by Damien Hirst, estimated at £10,000-£15,000, and a limited edition “Beatles Sumo Edition” book by David Bailey, estimated at £7,000-£10,000.
The Modern and Contemporary Art Sale at Tennants Auctioneers will feature significant Northern artists, including Maxwell Doig, David Blackburn, and Stuart Walton.
