Two Reading charities championed at ‘Legends of Reading’ art auctions

Both Launchpad and No.5 were recognised for their commitment to helping Reading residents in need of urgent assistance and support.

The piece of artwork that was produced by artist and owner of Electric Hair, Mark Woolley, is a unique collage of people and businesses that make up the dynamic Berkshire town.

The first two original prints – artist proofs – were auctioned off at twin events, attended by a select number of businesses, influential individuals (and of course the Reading Chronicle).

In total £4700 was raised for both charities, with two local businessmen winning the first unique prints of the artwork.

On Thursday, June 27, John Madejski nabbed the first ‘artist proof’ for a staggering £2,500 contribution, which has been donated to Launchpad to help fight homelessness in Reading.

In an event on July 10 at Vino Vita, the Reading charity No.5 was celebrated for their work with struggling young people throughout the community. In a gripping bidding war, Conor Roughneen, founder of Roc Search bagged a print for £2,200.

These one-off ‘artist proof’ prints each bear unique lion emblems, setting them apart from the rest of the run.

Carly Newman, Operations and Relationships Manager said: “It’s so amazing, we’re so grateful. It really is support from businesses and individuals in our community that help us do what we do.

“We wouldn’t be able to do it without support from businesses who respect us, who trust us and who also really want to champion young people’s mental health and be there for future generations.”
