The Gathering Final Fantasy Artwork & a Big 2025

At MagicCon: Las Vegas 2024, Magic: The Gathering brought a wealth of new information regarding 2025 MTG releases and a sneak peek at FINAL FANTASY Universes Beyond card artwork!

On the opening night of MagicCon: Las Vegas 2024, Wizards of the Coast came prepared with a bundle of information revealing what’s next with Magic: the Gathering in the upcoming Foundations set, keying in on the fact that Foundations will be Standard Legal until 2029. Further into the future and 2025, Wizards of the Coast pulled back the curtain to reveal an assortment of upcoming sets and exciting Universes Beyond collaborations. Aside from the Spider-Man x Universes Beyond upcoming set revealed at NYCC 2024. Square Enix’s upcoming FINAL FANTASY Universes Beyond was also given the spotlight with a release date and teaser artwork revealed at last.

MagicCon: Las Vegas – Magic: the Gathering FINAL FANTASY Universes Beyond Teaser

Revealed at MagicCon: Las Vegas, the Magic: The Gathering FINALFANTASY Universes Beyond will feature cards and artwork from all mainline entries from the storied Square Enix franchise, from the first entry to Final Fantasy XVI. This is the largest section of FINAL FANTASY artwork ever featured in a single game, and the set will feature artwork from both Magic: the Gathering artists and classic illustrations iconic from the series itself. Fan-favourite characters including Sephiroth and Cloud will be featured, as well as lesser-known entities like common Moogles and Chocobos.

Producer of the FINAL FANTASY series, Shoichi Ichikawa said “At Square Enix, we are always seeking new ways to bring the rich lore and legacy of FINAL FANTASY to life”, continuing with “This collaboration is important to us because it allows us to merge the immersive storytelling of FINAL FANTASY with the fun and strategic play of Magic: the Gathering” mentioning the collaboration will be beloved by fans of both franchises at MagicCon: Las Vegas.

Following the big FINAL FANTASY Universes Beyond reveals, MagicCon: Las Vegas revealed what’s coming next to the planes of Magic: the Gathering in 2025. Wizards of the Coast even gave fans a look at some spoiler cards from the next new set: Aetherdrift.
