Studio Ghibli’s New-Edition Official Guidebook to Feature Exclusive Artwork

Studio Ghibli‘s official theme park will soon receive a new guidebook edition that will feature exclusive illustrations of beloved fan-favorite characters. The updated guidebook is the first to feature two new areas of the park that recently opened to the public.

Via PR Times, The newest edition of the Ghibli Park Official Guidebook is set to go on sale on June 28 and will be released in bookstores and online retailers throughout Japan. The “must-have” book for Ghibli fans includes numerous brand-new art pieces from staff who have worked on numerous Studio Ghibli titles, including Katsuya Kondo (key animator for Castle in the Sky, Porco Rosso and Princess Mononoke), Akihiko Yamashita (character design and animation director for Howl’s Moving Castle) and Yoji Takeshige (art director for Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle and The Wind Rises), as well as the animation director for The Boy and the Heron, Yu Honda.

Studio Ghibli Fest 2024 continues with Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and Castle in the Sky, both receiving release dates for theatrical returns.

The new edition of the guidebook will feature familiar areas of the park, including Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse, Seishun no Oka (Hill of Youth) and Dondoko Forest, which opened in November 2022. Two new areas of the park — Mononoke Village and Valley of Witches — will be featured in the updated guidebook for the first time. The upcoming release is the first official guidebook that covers all five areas of the park, which first opened in March 2018. The book will retail for 1,540 yen (~US$10) and will be released as a 176-page A5 soft cover book. A pre-order page for the new guidebook is already available for purchase on Amazon.co.jp.

Studio Ghibli’s Updated Guidebook Gives Insight Into Its Park’s Rich History

In addition to covering new areas of Ghibli Park and including exclusive illustrations from Studio Ghibli’s animators, the new guidebook will offer fans an in-depth look at the rich history of the park to enhance their visit. The New Edition Ghibli Park Official Guidebook also includes interviews with both Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki and his son Goro Miyazaki, as well as a written contribution by Natsuki Ikezawa.
