After Stafford County residents cast their ballots in November, they will have the option of sporting a locally designed “I Voted” sticker.
Nearly a dozen high school students entered the contest held in conjunction with the county office of elections and the county’s office of community engagement. The three finalists, all of whom attend Mountain View High School, were recognized at Tuesday’s board of supervisors meeting.
First place was awarded to Ellie Brewer, a senior at Mountain View High School, for her hand-drawn design featuring a cardinal perched on a dogwood branch. The design symbolizes the pride and beauty of Virginia. Members of the electoral board voted on each design and said that the detail of Brewer’s design is why she won the honor of seeing her sticker handed out to voters in November.
Second place went to Noah Hoover, a senior at Mountain View High School, for his vibrant design: “Stafford County, Your Vote Matters! I Voted!”. Third place was Ava Frizzell, a sophomore at Mountain View High School, for her design titled: “I Voted, Make a Change.”
“We are thrilled to celebrate the artistic talent of our students and their commitment to civic responsibility,” said Stafford Schools Acting Superintendent Chris Fulmer. “These designs not only showcase the creativity of our young people, but also serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of voting in our community.”
“I am delighted with the results and appreciate the Schools and Stafford Government partnering with me on this effort,” said General Registrar Anna Hash. “Thank you to the Stafford County Electoral Board for their work in selecting the finalists and the winners.”
Entries were evaluated on uniqueness of the design in relation to Stafford County and its identity; clarity, strength, and effectiveness of design; and overall aesthetics or eye-catching ability. Students were also awarded gift cards at the meeting.
