Southampton students decorate The Wickets care home
The students from Banister Primary School were invited by Care UK to draw pictures based on the theme “who do you care about?”
Their artwork is now on display on the hoardings surrounding The Wickets, a new care home being built on Banister Road.
Aphrodite Kapula, art club leader at Banister Primary School, said: “The school plays an important part in the life of the local community, and we were pleased to assist Care UK in decorating their hoardings.
“The children had a great time creating the artwork and loved seeing it displayed for everyone to appreciate.”
Justin Daley, development project manager for Care UK, said: “We were delighted to be able to collaborate with Banister Primary School on a lovely art project to brighten up our hoardings.
“It was great to welcome the children to see their pictures displayed and we look forward to working with the school on future projects.”
The care home is expected to welcome its first residents in December 2025.
Once finished, the facility will offer full-time residential, nursing, respite, and dementia care for up to 80 older people in Southampton. The project will also create 97 new jobs.
The Wickets will include spaces for hobbies and leisure activities, designed to promote independence and an active lifestyle for residents.
It will feature amenities such as a cinema, pub, and coffee shop. The outdoor area will be secure and wheelchair friendly, with sensory gardens, water features, and seating.
The building will be divided into smaller suites, each with its own lounge and dining room, helping to create a community feel. For more information, visit careuk.com/care-homes/the-wickets-southampton.
