New Paralympian artwork unveiled – 25 years in dentistry

Bupa Dental Care has teamed up with Paralympian-turned-illustrator Sophie Kamlish to create a unique illustration for its 25^th anniversary.

As part of Bupa’s partnership with ParalympicsGB, Paralympian Sophie Kamlish was asked to create an illustration to commemorate 25 years since Bupa began offering dental care to patients. With more than 8,000 colleagues, Bupa Dental Care is now one of the leading dental care providers in the UK. 

Sophie is a former Paralympic sprinter who represented Great Britain in the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, also winning a bronze medal in the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon. In addition to her successful athletic career, she is also a talented illustrator and animator who advocates for disability representation and inclusion.

Sophie’s striking illustration brings a fresh and fun perspective on dental care and will be featured across Bupa Dental Care’s collateral throughout 2024.

‘Something that everyone feels a part of’

When asked the inspiration behind her illustration, Sophie Kamlish said:

‘I started with a big number 25 and used the leftover space to form a lively crowd of people, from dental professionals to patients. I enjoy drawing groups of people and capturing the everyday interactions that you didn’t spot before.

‘As a disabled athlete, I wanted to create something that everyone feels a part of. When I draw, I always include a diverse range of people, including those with disabilities and other underrepresented groups. I understand how important and rare it is to see visual representations of yourself, so I make it a priority in my artwork.’
