Mum reveals how she recreated a $400 artwork for just $7

A crafty mum has revealed how she ‘recreated’ a $400 artwork she saw online for just $7 after picking up some plaster and sample paint at Bunnings.

The handy mum posted pictures of her artwork as well as the original inspiration piece on Facebook after being impressed by the final result.

She also used an ‘old canvas print’ which was ‘destined for the bin’ and said she loves the way her artwork turned out.

 ‘I mixed the Plaster of Paris with water to create a paste then smeared that on using spatula,’ she explained.

‘I created height in different areas by adding extra blobs here and there,’ she said. 

The mum then waited six hours for the plaster to dry before painting over it.

And it appears she wasn’t the only one impressed by her version of the artwork with many on the Bunnings Mums Facebook group congratulating her for her efforts. 

‘Yours looks better than the $400 piece,’ one woman exclaimed.

Before the artist said the inspiration pieces ranged from $400 to $1100. 

And other mums revealed they had thought of creating similar artworks in their homes.

Many mums commented on the artwork and said they liked it more than the original

‘I am so glad to see someone else has done this, and that it is worth the effort,’ one such mum said.

Another woman said she used plaster and paint on a whole feature wall in her home, to add texture.
