Original artwork of The Incredible Hulk, created by legendary illustrator Neal Adams for his first piece of Marvel-commmissioned art, is selling at auction, and bidding already has approached $40,000 at Heritage.
The work was created for the box lid of Aurora’s 1966 model kit, which would include a Hulk figurine for children to enjoy, and featured the Hulk against a yellow backdrop, clenching one fist.

“This is not just a production artifact; it’s a turning point, when mass-market toy culture and comic book artistry collided to create something enduring and electric,” the auction lot description reads .
Following this Marvel debut, Adams went on to become a world-renowned comic artist, working for decades on comics including Batman, Green Lantern and X-Men.
Though this artwork was used in a commercial product, Adams was most well-known for his cover art.
The original art he penned for Batman No. 251, considered one of the most memorable Joker covers of all time, sold for $600,000 at Heritage in 2019.
