Fola David’s record-breaking artwork: Vesti pledges cultural unity
By Damiete Braide
In the world of art, where the canvas becomes a mirror of society, few projects carry the weight of cultural significance as profoundly as Dr. Fola David’s “Unity in Diversity.”
This ambitious endeavor, driven by a passion for creativity and a commitment to national unity, aims to break the Guinness World Record for the largest drawing by an individual, a record previously held by Ravi Soni of India, whose artwork spanned 629.98 square meters.
Dr. Fola David, a renowned visual artist and cultural icon, has taken on the challenge with a vision that transcends mere artistic expression. His goal is to create a monumental artwork that not only surpasses the existing record but also serves as a powerful statement about Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and the importance of unity amidst diversity.
His work, now extending over an awe-inspiring 1,050 square meters, is not just a feat of physical endurance and artistic skill; it is a tribute to the diverse tribes, languages, and traditions that make up the fabric of Nigeria.
This groundbreaking project has caught the attention of Vesti, a leading fintech company that specialises in providing financial services to immigrants. Recognizing the cultural and symbolic significance of Dr. David’s work, Vesti has pledged N25 million to support the “Unity in Diversity” project. The sponsorship marks the beginning of a strategic partnership between Vesti and Dr. David, one that is rooted in a shared vision of celebrating and promoting Nigeria’s cultural richness on a global scale.
Olusola Amusan, Co-founder and CEO of Vesti, expressed his admiration for Dr. David’s visionary project, emphasising how it resonates with Vesti’s core mission. “We are honored to support Dr. Fola David’s visionary project,” Amusan said. “The ‘Unity in Diversity’ initiative aligns perfectly with Vesti’s mission to empower individuals with exceptional abilities and celebrate the richness of our culture. We believe this partnership will inspire others to embrace their heritage and contribute to building a more united Nigeria.”
Dr. Fola David, who visited Vesti’s Lagos office on Wednesday to discuss the project, expressed deep gratitude for the support, stating, “I am deeply grateful for Vesti’s belief in my vision. Their support is invaluable as I embark on this historic journey. Together, we are creating a powerful statement about Nigeria’s unity and diversity.”
This monumental artwork, when completed, will stand as a testament to what can be achieved when vision, creativity, and support from committed partners come together for a common cause. Through the “Unity in Diversity” project, Dr. Fola David and Vesti are not just breaking records; they are making history.
