The latest Cyberpunk project brings the series’ most recent entry full circle. Based on the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime, the mission kit for the tabletop game is now going to print.
Set after the events of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the new gaming experience lets fans experience a night and day in Night City. It also features new character designs made by Studio Trigger’s Hiroyuki Imaishi (Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, Star Wars: Visions), who directed the anime. Now planned for a summer release, fans will soon be able to recreate the colorful hit show.

The Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Anime’s Tabletop Game Has a June Release Window
Created by R. Talsorian Games alongside CD Projekt Red, the mission kit for the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners tabletop game is soon heading to physical and digital formats. The kit includes the game’s rule book, dice themed around the game (two D10s and four D6s), the “Edgerunners Handbook,” various tokens and maps to replicate the world of the anime series and “The Jacket,” a full mission for players to engage in. There are also seven pre-made Edgerunners designed by the director of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime, allowing players to jump right into the campaign.
The basic rules are based on the latest version of the original Cyberpunk tabletop role-playing game, although it offers something for both new fans and old. This includes a variety of weapon types, gear and other elements reflecting the current version of the main game. Currently, the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Mission Kit is set to come out in June 2024 through the stores of R. Talsorian Games and partner company DriveThruRPG. The versions for Roll20 & Fantasy Grounds will come later, with gaming and hobby shops receiving it not too long afterward. It’s set to retail for US$35 MSRP, making the anime “playable” for less than $40.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Was the Latest Cyberpunk Franchise Project
Produced by Studio Trigger (the anime studio behind titles including Kill la Kill, Darling in the Franxx and the currently airing Delicious in Dungeon) and CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was a 2022 anime entry in the Cyberpunk franchise. It specifically acts as a prequel to the events of the Cyberpunk 2077 video game, which itself is based on Mike Pondsmith’s Cyberpunk tabletop role-playing game universe. Exemplifying the science fiction genre of the same name, these works are known for featuring hi-tech gadgetry amid corrupt cities. The setting of the game and anime adaptation is Night City, which is a section of a heavily-altered California.
Edgerunners in particular is a colorful yet dystopian series that was heavily praised for how it adapted the overarching franchise. Currently, there are no plans for a second season of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime, with the show supposedly always meant to be a standalone work. Thus, the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Mission Kit is the best way for fans and viewers to experience new adventures in the vein of the show. However, the creator of the series is launching a new, unrelated manga series.
