The above artwork was described: “This image represents a fantastic collaboration between Dragon Ball and the McLaren F1 team, which was sponsored by Weekly Shonen Jump. Toriyama was known for his love of F1, and it shows in his stunning composition and machinery designs! The Dragon Ball and Jump logos also add a stylish touch to the team uniforms.”
The artwork follows the other resurfaced crossover between Dragon Ball and Formula 1 a few months before this version. Released in October 1990, Goku again featured in a stunning depiction of a McLaren, despite the limited references due to F1’s scarcity in Japan. Toriyama had quickly made a name for himself after debuting in Shonen Jump, garnering widespread attention at the time for his incredibly detailed vehicle and mech designs. These were again seen in his 2000s series, Sand Land, which received an anime adaptation on Hulu this year.
