Don’t Crowd the Plow Art Contest designs revealed at Avon Middle School
Winning designs of snow plows for the city of Avon were recently revealed at Avon Middle School, 3445 Long Road, as part of the Don’t Crowd the Plow art contest.
Avon City Schools, in partnership with the Avon Police Department and the city of Avon Streets Department, collaborated to create artwork for four snow plows for the city, according to Patrick Sullivan, school resource officer at Avon High School and crime prevention officer for the Avon Police Department.
Sullivan said Oct. 31 that he and the Avon Schools school resource officers and art teachers worked together on the program for students to be involved and show their creativity.
“I like to take the opportunity, when we can, to showcase our talented artists,” he said. “Every time this truck goes down the street, it’s an advertisement for Don’t Crowd the Plow.”
According to Duane Streator, safety director for the city of Avon, the Don’t Crowd the Plow campaign helps make motorists aware of the precautions to take when snow plows are actively clearing roads in the winter.
Snow plows designed with artwork and different creations can help draw attention to the plows to keep drivers aware to stay safe, Streator said.
“I think it’s an awesome program, especially for our Service Department,” he said. “We’re trying to make the roads better.”

Sullivan said the Streets Department safely prepared the plows for students to paint them outside of Avon Middle and High School.
Winning designs varied from each other, but all featured a uniqueness relating to creativity, Avon Eagles and snow or winter.
“It’s really cool,” Sullivan said. “It’s hard work that the kids did, and the art teachers.”
Stacy Cislo, Avon Middle School art teacher, said the project was a great opportunity for the students involved, as they learned more about snow plows in general while working as a team to paint.
The group of eighth grade students were motivated to come up with design ideas and collaborated well together, Cislo said.
“We were just really honored that our SRO officers came to us with this community project,” she said. “Overall, it was a great experience, and we hope to take part again next year.”
