City of the Wolves reveal
There are some inevitabilities in life that cannot be avoided like death, taxes and Mai Shiranui’s red dress — although we can apparently cross off that last one now.
SNK recently revealed Mai Shiranui sporting a very different look for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves this week, and fan artists all around the world immediately fell in love and started getting to work with her new design.
Basically ever since her introduction in 1992’s Fatal Fury 2, Mai’s official attire has always consisted of a skimpy red dress with white accents and a decorative tail (although some of the original art makes it look more pink with yellow accents).
The costume would change slightly from iteration to iteration over the past three decades by adjusting things like her footwear, size of her dress, the pattern on it / the tail and how much cleavage she showed, but the core was always there even through The King of Fighters 15.
Now, she’s hung up that vintage outfit in favor of a crop top leather jacket, pants and heeled boots that are seemingly being welcomed by fans as a nice change of pace for the character — and it also helps that her original dress is going to be in City of the Wolves too as an alternate costume.
This is especially true for fan artists from basically everywhere, who wasted no time illustrating the ninja in her new fit plus how it accentuates her natural features, and there’s a lot of great stuff to look at already.
Thus far, Mai is the only returning character besides Billy Kane who received a drastic redesign for City of the Wolves since they were not originally present for Garou: Mark of the Wolves 25 years ago, so any other classic Fatal Fury fighters are likely going to be sporting new looks as well.
Out of the collection we’ve gathered up currently just over a day after Mai was revealed for Fatal Fury, Toshio’s and RaVel’s pixel art are probably our favorites though it’s hard to choose just one.
