Artwork celebrating our town to be auctioned for charity – Reading Today Online
Legends of Reading, a contemporary, artistic collage celebrating our town by artist and salon owner of Electric Hair, Mark Woolley, will be auctioned off at the awards lunch in aid of Chris Tarrant’s chosen charity Swings and Smiles.
It features the faces of local characters and some of its celebrated people in business, arts, entertainment, sports and the local community, alongside some of our favourite buildings, events, history and landmarks.
The piece has been a huge success with a published limited edition. Two artist’s proofs were sold off at events supporting homeless charity Launchpad and youth counselling service No 5 in June for a total of £4,700.
Pride of Reading Awards Patron Sir John Madejski bought the first for £2,500 and Conor Roughneen, founder of Reading based international recruitment company Roc Search which is an awards sponsor, bought another for £2,200.
The unique artwork by Mark Woolley, framed by Keeleys, is due to be auctioned tomorrow (Friday).
The charity which will benefit this time from the auction is Swings & Smiles which, from its base in Thatcham, offers support for disabled children from across Reading and their families in a unique and accessible environment. Services include respite, family play sessions, youth clubs.
