Palo Alto arts festival delights crowds

Art fans, food lovers and other curious Peninsula residents all poured onto University Avenue on Saturday for Day 1 of the Palo Alto Festival of the Arts. The festival continues from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday and runs from Webster to High streets.
Brilliant sunshine gave way to the occasional gust of cooling wind as thousands of people strolled the length of the festival on Saturday. Exhibitors included fine artists, jewelry makers and even a car company. Typically, the festival draws about 500,000 according to organizers at the Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce.
Renowned chalk artists returned for the 17th year to turn Tasso Street into a work of art. Some of the creations were as large as 100 feet square.
Musicians set up on Waverley and Webster streets as well as busking on street corners to set the mood. Beer and wine was available for purchase and food vendors lined the route.
Several blocks were closed leading to University and by Saturday afternoon parking was at a premium.
