Coffee – says Vernon’s Community Arts Centre (VCAC) – tastes better in a handmade mug.
The centre’s sixth annual Mugs of May: Art Show and Sale is brewing at the centre through to May 26.
The exhibition features hundreds of unique ceramic mugs created by artists from across the Okanagan, highlighting makers at all stages of their practice, from emerging artists to established ceramicists.
The show celebrates the simple joy of functional art, pieces made to be held, used, and enjoyed every day.
Visitors will discover everything from playful, expressive designs to timeless favourites, alongside wall and fine art inspired by coffee, comfort, and daily rituals.
“This is one of my favourite exhibitions of the year,” says Emma Kopp, marketing and events coordinator at VCAC. “There is something special about seeing so many handmade pieces come together in one space, each one ready to become part of someone’s everyday routine.
“It is a meaningful way to support local artists while celebrating functional art.”
Visitors can also take part in a Mugs of May colouring contest. Sheets are available at VCAC, with entries due May 26 for a chance to win a $25 gift card.
New work arrives throughout the month, so every visit offers something different, whether you are searching for a thoughtful handmade gift, a teacher thank-you, or simply the perfect mug to start your day.
Gallery hours are Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
