
Fine Arts Student of the Week: Freshman shines in one-act play – Brainerd Dispatch
Grade: Freshman.
Age: 14.
Art focus: Theater.
Memorable fine arts achievement: Being selected twice for state Honors Choir.
Adviser nomination: “Prior to the One-Act, I had not met Bella. It was apparent almost immediately to me how dedicated Bella is and what a hard-worker she is,” adviser Karla Shepherd-Johnson said. “Bella has extremely impressive acting skills, as well as fantastic facial expressions and overall, just being a phenomenal human being! Bella does a fantastic job communicating with me and the cast, and it is a pleasure to work with her. Keep up the superb work, Bella, and I hope you continue being in the BHS theatre program in the future!”
How did you get interested in theater? My father directed Monticello’s musicals, and my mother put on the same Broadway playlist everyday when I was younger, so I’ve been practically raised to like it.
What do you love about theater? I love that you get to show a wide variety of expressing yourself in theater that you otherwise wouldn’t.
Talk about your role in the one-act play: I have the amazing role as one of the mothers in the Greek chorus to the lead. It’s a fun role with quirky lines and funny personality.
Favorite production you’ve been a part of: My favorite production I was in was “Seussical the Musical.” It got me into theater and is such a fun production!What’s the most challenging part of theater? The most challenging part of theater is ensuring that your actions, expressions, words and even character can be seen and understood by the audience.
Dream about job: My dream job is a choir director.
Other extracurricular activities: Swim team, one-act, speech team, encore, and I am planning on doing Musical too.
Favorite movie: “Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.”
Favorite TV show: “Nailed It!”
Favorite book: “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.”
Favorite subject: Either choir or AP Human Geography.
Favorite band/musician: Florence & The Machine.
Favorite song: “Drumming” by Florence & The Machine.
Favorite food: Mac & cheese (preferably homemade).
