Connections Over Exclusivity: Marty Herman’s Dedication to the Fine Arts
As the owner of Exposures International Gallery of Fine Art in Sedona, Arizona, Marty Herman heads one of the country’s largest and most renowned fine art galleries. Herman’s mission has been to reshape the way galleries operate. Instead of making the gallery the central focus, he has shifted the focus to nurturing relationships between artists and clients. Herman was driven by an innate desire to create spaces where people and art could connect on a deeper level.
Art as a Shared Experience
Herman’s entry into the world of fine art was inspired by dissatisfaction. Having visited hundreds of galleries, he realized much of the spotlight was on the gallery rather than the artists or their work. He leveraged his experience as a marketer and businessman to develop a unique gallery model. Herman’s vision turned into Exposures, where business is built on honesty, mutual support, and a handshake. In other words, art here is not just a product but a shared experience.
The 20,000-square-foot gallery displays the work of nearly 100 top fine artists, from oil and acrylic painters to sculptors and fine jewelry makers. It has earned accolades, including being named Sedona’s Best Art Gallery Readers Choice, among the Best Galleries in Arizona, and One of the 20 Best Galleries in the World by the World Art Awards.
A Cultural Hub for All Artists
Herman’s journey began long before Exposures. He first made his mark in marketing, working for high-profile companies such as Coca-Cola and Guitar Center. Alongside his corporate achievements, he pursued personal passions. Herman became a sea captain and traveled the world from 1984 to 1990.
Herman’s travels nurtured his appreciation of art as a universal language. He envisioned a space where artists from all walks of life could showcase their talents. This global perspective led him to set up shop in Sedona. What started as a small gallery soon became a cultural hub celebrated by locals and tourists alike.
A 30-Year Legacy in the Art World
Now celebrating nearly three decades at the helm of Exposures, Herman attributes the gallery’s success to placing relationships over transactions. “Honesty and integrity is a must, and to enjoy doing it is a necessity. If you do both of these things then the money will be there,” he explains. This philosophy, he believes, is the key to creating a lasting legacy in any business, but especially in the world of art.
Herman’s influence extends beyond the gallery walls. He is also working on a new project that taps into his background in AI. Herman envisions creating an AI Learning Center for religious studies. He anticipates a global platform where people from around the globe can engage in meaningful discussions about faith and spirituality.
Choosing Connections Over Exclusivity
In the art industry, many focus on exclusivity and profits. In contrast, Herman has created a sanctuary for creativity, integrity, and connection. His Exposures International Gallery of Fine Art is a community where artists and clients come together in a shared appreciation of beauty and craftsmanship. This ethos has made Herman’s gallery more than a business. It is a place where the impact of art is felt in every handshake, every conversation, and every piece that leaves its doors.
