Clark Dunbar’s ‘The PowWow Portrait Project – A Fine Art Series’ is a celebration of the culture and personalities of Native American/ Indigenous Peoples of all ages from the youth to the elders in traditional regalia. The portraits are photographed on location at PowWows across Montana in a mini-studio with formal, classic style lighting. Each individual carries their character, history, family, traditions, pride and cultural heritage. The PowWow is both the celebration and the continuance and teaching of the traditions to the next generation.
The 2023 Series is now scheduling exhibits and shows at museums and galleries around the world. The 2024 PowWow portrait sessions are in the planning and scheduling phase to expand the series for more shows and a book project.
Clark Dunbar is an advertising/commercial photographer & cinematographer for over 50 years, from film to pixels – now based in North Western Montana. Having worked in silicon valley during the 1970s thru 1990’s with clients worldwide before moving back into large format digital cinematography and now fine art stills from portraits to studies in abstracts. HIs work has been featured in the Steve Jobs Archive (permanent collection), Disney’s Epcot Center’s Opening Photo Exhibit in 1982 to RED Digital Cinemas ‘RED Collective Series’ – of cinematographers – clients have ranged from Apple, Atari, Wells Fargo Bank, Hewlett-Packard, Mattel, Hasbro, Intel, Stanford University, Denver Museum of Nature.Science, Omni Magazine, PBS Nature, NatGeo, Samsung, Toshiba, Hitachi, and many, many more over the his long career.
