Castle Fine Art to open shop in former Autumn House in Winchester

The lease to the closed café Autumn House, in The Square in Winchester, has been sold to Castle Fine Art.

Patrick Lennon, facilities manager at Washington Green Fine Art and Castle Galleries, has submitted a planning application to Winchester City Council.

Plans include a fascia sign reading Castle Fine Art, new oak flooring, display walls, more economical heating and internal decorations.

The print and art retailer has opened galleries all over the country and offers international deliveries but this would be its first shop in Hampshire.

Allan Pickering, who managed the letting for Goadsby, previously said: “We are looking forward to new retailer taking over the space, as we know they will be a great addition to Winchester.”

Autumn House, a cafe and bar owned by the same people as The Pump House, suddenly closed in the summer. An ex-employee of the cafe, who asked to remain anonymous, said that staff were not informed of the closure until the last possible moment. She estimated that she was owed around £2,000, with the entire staff owed at least a month’s wages.

Before Autumn House the Grade II listed unit was occupied by Dinghams Cookshop.
