The Academy is currently recruiting seven vacant 50% positions, five permanent positions and two fixed-term positions as Associate Professor/Professor of Contemporary Art. The role for the fixed-term positions is for six years. The recruitment for these positions is taking place simultaneously.
We are looking for artists with in-depth knowledge of their field of practice while having the ability to engage with and teach across different disciplines. An investment in current social issues such as the environment, diversity and gender equality. Public participation and social engagement is welcome. Commitment to the situation specific, postcolonial or indigenous perspectives and histories, practices related to the Global South is also welcomed.
We welcome hybrid approaches and/or a specialization in any of the fields of practice listed below:
–sculpture and installation
–sound and time-based formats
–painting/drawing/print-making
–performance
–moving image/film
–digital media and digital cultures
–material-based practices

Work tasks
The work tasks will include teaching across the BA and MA programme, research, evaluations, jury and committee work, support production of student exhibitions, seminars and related events, as well as participation in administrative tasks relating to the Academy as a whole and his or her field of responsibility. The associate professor/professor reports to the dean.
A central task will be to participate in the efforts to further develop the Academy’s profile and research in contemporary art practice, together with the dean, academic staff and program coordinators.
The employee is expected to actively participate in the department’s strategic development and contribute to a flexible use of the department’s overall resources. It is also expected that the employee contributes to academic debates, both internally and publicly, and help to promote the institution externally through maintaining and developing professional networks locally, nationally and internationally.

The Oslo National Academy of the Arts
The Oslo National Academy of the Arts is the largest academic institution for artists and designers in Norway. It consists of six departments: the Academy of Dance, the Design department, the Academy of Fine Art, the Art and Craft department, the Academy of Opera and the Academy of Theatre.
This variety allows practitioners to develop across the various fields. The school’s academic staff are actively engaged in academic research, artistic research and public presentation and offer a range of Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes within their fields. The Academy of Fine Art offers BFA, MFA, and PhD programmes. Our students work across various media, materials, and approaches, emphasising self-motivated experimentation.
This allows them to shape their educational journey according to individual interests while benefiting from collective learning and shared knowledge. Regular one-on-one tutorials with professors and guest teachers, as well as group critiques with fellow students, provide continuous feedback on their work.
