Ullapool to see ambitious week-long An Talla Solais ‘arts festival’ packed with over 30 events
An Ullapool art gallery is set to host an ambitious week-long celebration of art next month, which will be jam-packed with events and activities for all ages.
An Talla Solais Art Week 2024, running from September 7 to 14, will see over 30 different exhibitions, workshops, talks, events and an artists studio trail.
Over 150 established and emerging artists will showcase their work during Art Week, including: Will Maclean, Marian Levan, Beth Robertson Fides, James Hawkins and MK Thompson.
An Talla Solais director, Mhairi Muncaster said: “Ullapool has a special artistic community which Art Week will celebrate. There are a huge number of artist’s living and working in the area, we will support them professionally and come together through Art Week – a dedicated visual arts festival.
“Art Week has been made possible by our funders; Creative Scotland and the Ullapool Harbour Trust to whom we are most grateful.”
Creative Scotland Quote: “Projects like Inspire Ullapool from An Talla Solais demonstrate how the Open Fund can bring such a crucial boost to local communities across Scotland. Thanks to the National Lottery, initiatives like Inspire Ullapool can support artists to develop their creative practices, highlight the inherent energy of local art and cultural scenes, and ensure that communities access inspiring visual arts activities wherever they are.”
Multiple artists will also be opening their studios for the week, as a part of the artists studio trail.
There will also be workshops running every day of Art Week, for artists of all ages. One of these workshops will be held by author and illustrator Jenny Grant, who will be hosting an interactive reading of her book Between Mountain and Sea for children aged five to ten, on September 7 from 2—4pm. All Art Week workshops cost £5 per person.
Local businesses will also be showing their support for local artists by offering up their shop windows as pop-up exhibition venues. Some of these businesses include: Unlimited Colour Company, Ullapool Bookshop, The Seafood Shack and Ullapool Outdoors. Clachan Church on Lochside will also host an exhibition featuring ten different artists throughout Art Week, from 2—5pm daily.
Video screenings will also take place at the Ullapool Ferry Terminal, which will host the award-winning film from Anthony Baxter titled Eye of the Storm, followed by a talk from Baxter about the film.
