New artist brings beaded art to Hampshire Open Studios

August 12, 2024 2 Mins Read

Hampshire Open Studios is an annual art trail where the visiting public can meet artists in their homes, studios and galleries free of charge.

Landscape artist Charlotte Rose and mixed-media artist Donna Mcghie welcomed their new addition, Steph Rose from Leaping Frog Crafts.

Born and raised in Salisbury, Ms Rose specialises in acrylic paintings of landscapes and wildlife, focusing on our places in Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire.

She is also passionate about the natural environment, which shines through her work.

Steph is Charlotte’s sister and is a mixed-media artist, who specialises in beaded creations and is thrilled to be taking part in the event for the first time.

She said: “I’m delighted to be joining Hampshire Open Studios for the first time. I love working with seed beads and wire in particular – you’ll find all sorts of unique nature-inspired creations.”

“I can’t wait to get set up and I think we’ll make a great team!”

Ms Mcghie said: “Our different styles complement each other so if you pop along to Venue 153 you are bound to find something to your taste.”

She painted her first mural nearly 25 years ago and has been painting murals for friends and family in her spare time ever since.

Ms Mcghie believes an important and very special part of the process is getting to know the person or people that the mural is for.

Visitors can expect to see a blend of landscape paintings and sculptural creations from Ms Rose and Ms Mcghie in the former’s Winchester studio.

There will also be opportunities to watch Ms Rose paint, have an introduction to Powertex from Ms Mcghie and join a beading session led by Steph.

Hampshire Open Studios runs from August 17-26.

More details are available on their website.

The studio is open both weekends.

Visitors can also arrange appointments on other weekdays.
