Neurodiverse artists to auction work in support of ADHD Jersey

October 17, 2024 One Min Read

WORKS created by neurodiverse Islanders are due to feature at an auction organised by non-profit organisation ADHD Jersey next weekend.

The fundraising event takes place on Saturday 26 October at the L’Horizon Hotel in St Brelade.

The “creative” black-tie event, described as “an evening of elegance, artistry and advocacy”, will feature a masquerade ball, a three-course dinner, dancing and an auction of artworks and experiences created or donated by people with ADHD.

This includes handmade jewellery, paintings, drawings, homemade crafts and massage vouchers.

Rachel Tippett, who runs the non-profit support group ADHD Jersey, explained that the event aims to change perceptions about the condition.

She said that attendees would wear masks to symbolise the “masking” that those with ADHD often have to undertake in social situations.

The auction will raise money for the group’s monthly support meetings, social media resources and workplace education programmes.

Mrs Tippett added: “The funding is going towards fixing the trauma of undiagnosed and untreated ADHD while also reducing stigma in society.”

The evening will also include testimonials from people with ADHD to provide attendees with personal insights into living with the condition.

Health commissioner Liz Lewry and integrative psychotherapist Jean Allen will also be speaking at the event.

Mrs Tippet added that she wanted to thank Jane and Mark Smith, who donated £2,000 towards the cost of the auction.

Tickets for the event are priced at £80 per person, with tables of ten available for £700 and can be purchased online via Eventbrite until Wednesday 23 October.
