International artists to lead eco-print workshop inspired by Leitrim landscape

Artists and nature lovers in Leitrim are set for a unique creative experience this week as internationally acclaimed artists Helen O’Leary and Kim Flick lead a special eco-printing workshop inspired by the natural materials of Sliabh an Iarainn.

Taking place at The Dock on Thursday, May 14 from 6pm to 8pm, The Colours of Sliabh an Iarainn will invite participants to work directly with leaves, plants, iron-rich soils and water gathered from the Leitrim landscape.

The evening workshop will focus on eco-printing techniques, allowing participants to create direct impressions on cloth and paper using natural forms and materials. Organisers say the event is designed as a slow, hands-on and grounded creative experience, encouraging people to connect with both art and nature in an intimate way.

No previous experience is required and all materials will be supplied. Tickets for the workshop, which included refreshments, sold out quickly.

Wexford-born artist Helen O’Leary is internationally recognised for her work that blurs the boundaries between painting and sculpture. Based between New York and Leitrim, she has received numerous prestigious awards and residencies throughout her career, including the Rome Prize at the American Academy in Rome, a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Hennessy Purchase Award at IMMA, and the Pollock-Krasner Award.

Joining her is Pennsylvania-based mixed media artist Kim Flick, who teaches visual arts through workshops, retreats and community programmes alongside her work with Pennsylvania State University. Flick is known for promoting sustainable studio practices and environmentally focused artistic projects.

The workshop forms part of a growing interest in eco-conscious art practices and creative engagement with the natural environment.
