A Ghanaian non-profit art group, InPosters Art Collective, has launched a project to decorate children’s hospital wards with murals, aiming to create a more welcoming environment for young patients.

The initiative, known as The Children’s Dorm Project, seeks to transform 20 paediatric wards nationwide with artwork designed to inspire healing and spark imagination among hospitalised children.

So far, the collective has completed murals at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, with plans to extend the project to other major health facilities, including the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, Essikadu Hospital, European Hospital, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Accra Regional Hospital, and Tamale Teaching Hospital.

Project curator Ian Kwakye said the initiative aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 3, which promotes good health and well-being. He noted that the murals, along with interactive art activities and performances, are intended to provide relief for young patients.

“Our goal is to put smiles on the faces of these children through artistic expression,” Mr Kwakye said.

InPosters Art Collective, which includes artists and curators from Takoradi, Accra, and other regions, is also involved in mentorship and skill-building programmes for young creatives.

The group specialises in paintings, graffiti murals, poetry, professional design, and fine art photography, and conducts educational workshops to support emerging artists.

Mr Kwakye added that The Children’s Dorm Project is part of a broader effort to integrate art into community spaces, showing how creativity can be used to address social issues.
