Dorset artists can enter new Catch the Sun exhibition

They have until Friday, February 20 to enter. Everyone from experienced local artists to children and complete beginners is welcome to submit any work of art that has been inspired by the Sun, a selection of which will be exhibited in a unique exhibition that celebrates our nearest star and everything it touches

The show, managed by Dorchester Arts and running from Tuesday March 24 to Saturday April 11, will sit alongside Luke Jerram’s spectacular Helios installation over the 2026 Easter holidays.

Helios is a seven‑metre‑wide sculpture of the Sun, created at an approximate scale of 1:200 million, following on from the artist’s hugely popular Museum of the Moon and Mars works which lit up Dorchester in 2019 and 2022.

Catch the Sun is open to everyone living or working in Dorset, from children and complete beginners to experienced professionals. The only requirement is that the work is original and inspired in some way by the Sun – its power, its life‑giving role, or its place in human belief and culture. Artists can submit in almost any medium, including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, textiles, mixed media and wall‑mounted sculpture; there is also limited scope for video pieces.

A panel of judges will select artworks for display in the Corn Exchange Gallery. Submissions are online only, via a simple form hosted on CuratorSpace. Enter here.
