Artists and Creators Need to Focus on Content Now More Than Ever: Here’s Why

For years, Instagram felt like a slow grind — a marathon of incremental growth where only those with industry connections or relentless consistency had a real shot at building an audience. Meanwhile, TikTok changed the game, proving that virality could happen overnight. Now, Instagram is scrambling to keep up, and for the first time ever, it’s giving artists and creators a real shot at explosive growth.

The Game Has Changed

Instagram’s newest algorithm updates (as of February 2025) have introduced what can only be described as TikTok-inspired virality. Trial Reels are sent to strangers who don’t follow you, and if they engage, your content has the chance to spread far beyond your followers. This kind of organic reach was once unheard of on Instagram. But now, the playing field is wide open — if you’re willing to step up and play.

Here’s the truth: Artists and creators have never had this much power over their own destinies. The only ones who lose are the ones who refuse to adapt.

If you’re sitting on the sidelines thinking, “I don’t want to look cringe,” remember: It’s only cringe until it works. And it’ll never work if you don’t commit to posting at least 10 videos per month. The videos don’t need to be 4K cinematic, in fact, they shouldn’t be! Audiences now crave relatability and BTS more than ever.

Back in the day, you needed a DSLR camera, photoshop, skills and other barriers in order to grow on social media. Now, simple videos like talking to the camera or posting a funny thought can get millions of views.

Instagram and TikTok also prioritize content that is saved and/or shared, so relatable content that can be shared between friends or saved for later are important for having your account recommended more often.

Mastering the Hook: The Key to Virality

The first five seconds of your video determine everything. If you don’t grab attention immediately, your content is dead on arrival. Every great piece of viral content nails the three essential hooks:

1. Title Hook (On-Screen Text) – This needs to create immediate intrigue. Think about the bold captions you see on viral TikToks: “I can’t believe this happened…” or “This artist just changed the game.” Make people curious enough to keep watching.

2. Visual Hook (How the Video Starts) – The first frame matters. Open with a striking image, a dramatic zoom, a facial reaction or an unexpected movement. The goal is to visually force people to stop scrolling.

3. Audio Hook (The Sound Playing) – Sound is half the experience. Whether it’s a trending song, an engaging voiceover or a soundbite with emotional impact, make sure your audio grabs attention instantly.

Never Let Fear of Judgment Hold You Back

One of the biggest barriers stopping artists and creators from posting is the fear of judgment — whether from family, friends or strangers. But here’s the truth: if you let the fear of what others might think control you, you’re handing them power over your future.

Every successful creator you admire had to push past that fear. They had to ignore the doubters, the side-eyes and the people who didn’t “get it.” The reality is, most people are too focused on their own lives to care as much as you think they do. And the ones who do judge? Their opinions don’t pay your bills or build your dreams.

The only thing that matters is showing up for yourself. Posting consistently. Learning from your mistakes. Improving with every piece of content. The more you post, the less you care about judgment — and the more confident you become in your craft.

The days of waiting for a record label, a manager or an industry plug to change your life are over. You now have direct access to your audience. The question is: Are you going to take advantage of it?

If you’re not posting regularly, it’s not because you’re too cool for social media. It’s because you’re scared of looking stupid. But guess what? Every artist, influencer and viral creator you admire once felt the same way. The difference? They posted anyway.

This is your time. Don’t waste it. Start creating. Start posting. And most importantly — start sharing your gift with the world.
