Sir Quentin Blake sent 10 of his artworks to Fitzwarren House which now adorn a downstairs coffee lounge that was re-named in his honour as a thank-you for this kind gift.
Home manager Sue Smith said “Quentin has an interest in dementia and was thrilled by the lounge’s new name and has handwritten the signage for us.
“The idea of the prints is for the residents to look at a particular picture and discuss it – so, a conversation starter really.
“The person facilitating the session can ask questions to prompt more ideas and encourage the residents to use their imagination, or to get lost in the story.”
Fitzwarren House held an event earlier this month to mark the unveiling of the lounge’s new look, with special guest Gislaine Kenyon in attendance
Ghislaine – who read out a personal message from the illustrator before the ribbon-cutting – wrote Quentin’s autobiography and is a friend of care home resident Mary Wake’s husband Colin, who had the prints framed.
The 91-year-old cartoonist and children’s author has illustrated more than 300 books, including 18 written by Roald Dahl.
