PARKERSBURG — Even though Deanna Argabrite’s display at WesBanco is a small one, her oil paintings depict the artistic eye she has for color, emotion and the feelings she was experiencing at the time she painted.
She tends to paint when she has an inspiration and the time to devote to her work. Argabrite is a self-taught artist without formal training, but had encouragement from her teachers.
“There is no specific through line in these pieces – they tend to reflect where I was emotionally. The mood tends to shift before the work is complete, but in the end it is all colors and feelings,” said Argabrite.
Argabrite paints exclusively in oil as it was something new for her and a challenge. The WesBanco exhibit is her first full exhibit, but she did have a small exhibit at the Grand Central Mall several years ago. Her inspirations come from color combinations that she likes to experiment with–like two opposing colors in the same work.
She also gets ideas for a painting from scraps of magazine pieces torn out or pictures she has taken on her phone to remind her to do a painting. The time Argabrite gets to set aside to dedicate to her work excites her to get to the painting and going back to rework it because she thought of a new idea or perspective for the piece.
The Deanna Argabrite art exhibit may be viewed at WesBanco Bank, 415 Market St., during April at regular business hours of Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and on Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
