Roundabout art a value to community
Public art is more than decoration; it’s the heartbeat of a community. It strengthens our collective identity, ignites community pride, and fosters a sense of belonging. For both residents and visitors, it enriches our lives in meaningful ways.
The Jeremy Ranch/Pinebrook Roundabout Public Art Project was originally budgeted in 2019 with strong community support. Artwork in roundabouts makes them safer, calms traffic, and creates a sense of place. When artwork is implemented in roundabouts, studies show a 75% crash reduction at intersections, a 20% reduction in traffic delays, and a whopping 100% reduction in pedestrian fatalities—making a compelling statistical argument.
As with many things, due to the global pandemic in 2020, this project was placed on hold, and we all shifted and supported each other through trying times.
With renewed fervor and support from the Arts Council of Park City & Summit County, the Summit County Council and county manager have tasked us with completing this paramount project.
The roundabout artworks will act as a gateway to Summit County, and this project has the potential to be one of the most impactful and iconic in our region.
We see the Jeremy Ranch Roundabout artworks as a celebration of connection and resilience in our community, and the Summit County Public Art Advisory Board is excited to enter the final selection phase for Summit County’s largest Public Art Project to date.
After releasing a request for qualifications, we narrowed 72 submissions to three finalists in our March meeting, which saw public comment from many Pinebrook and Jeremy Ranch residents expressing enthusiastic support for the project.
We do not take these decisions lightly and want to hear from you. We invite community members to provide public input to help us select a winning proposal from the three finalists on Tuesday, April 2, at 4 p.m. at the Richins Building at the Kimball Junction Library or by zoom.
Art connects community.
