Colwyn Bay Station’s new RGC community artwork unveiled
A new community art initiative has been announced by Transport for Wales (TfW), and is set to transform the once weathered Colwyn Bay railway station into a vibrant celebration of local rugby and North Wales creativity.
The project shines a spotlight on Rygbi Gogledd Cymru (RGC). It forms part of a wider programme of community-led artworks aimed at enhancing station environments for passengers and local communities. Colwyn Bay station has previously also been home to artwork from local schools.
The initiative demonstrates how collaboration between artists, community groups, and local organisations can enrich public spaces and create something meaningful for the area.
In August 2025, a creative workshop took place at Parc Eirias, where players and coaches swapped their usual rugby training for spray paint, developing a series of designs inspired by the heritage and passion for rugby in North Wales.
The finished artwork was installed at the station by Alan Griffiths and John Evans, whose craftsmanship and attention to detail have transformed the workshop’s ideas into striking, permanent features on platform 2 of Colwyn Bay.
“The station artwork has been created with a real sense of pride, connecting people, sport and transport.
“We’re passionate about connecting communities to their railway. The latest artwork has been created with young people involved in sport, a real team effort.”
Sarah Jones Learning and Engagement Facilitator at Transport for Wales.
“We’re incredibly pleased to see the RGC mural displayed at Colwyn Bay train station. It’s a wonderful celebration of our roots in Colwyn Bay and a proud moment for everyone involved.
“We hope many supporters will have the opportunity to see the artwork in person when visiting by train and passing through the station.
“The train station is a focal point for our supporters as they travel from all corners of North Wales, making this display even more special.”
Alun Pritchard, RGC General Manager.
