North East veterans groups help design WW2 screw head artwork
Veteran groups have helped make an artwork made up of more than 14,000 screws to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two.
Artist Darren Timby, from Sunderland, designed the piece which depicts half of Winston Churchill’s face and half the face of an unknown soldier.
He has visited several veteran groups across north-east England to help him produce the artwork, which is made up entirely of black, gold and silver screw heads.
“It’s just been an absolute honour and the uptake by the veterans has been phenomenal,” he said.
