There’s now a game inspired by Jerry Garcia and his artwork
As the Grateful Dead‘s 60th anniversary year enters its final stretch, Jerry Garcia‘s family has found one more novel way to celebrate San Francisco’s favorite son.
In collaboration with Portland-based game studio Twogether Studios, creators of Illimat and Gloom, the late musician’s estate is launching Jerry Garcia’s Cosmic Journey, a colorful dice game inspired by Garcia’s artwork.
Designed by Jenn Ellis and Keith Baker, the game invites players to “push their luck” through a psychedelic maze drawn from Garcia’s paintings. The goal: shed your “Bummer” tokens and make it home first.
Preorders opened Tuesday, Oct. 7.

“We’re excited to partner with an independent company full of creative and imaginative individuals,” Trixie Garcia, Jerry’s daughter, said in a statement. “It’s been a true grassroots effort, and we’ve enjoyed seeing it grow into something that will bring people together.”
Garcia’s art has long been licensed for everything from silk neckties to socks, T-shirts and posters, among other accessories.
Garcia’s Cosmic Journey joins a flurry of tributes marking the Grateful Dead milestsone, including a Dead & Company residency in Golden Gate Park over the summer and San Francisco’s decision to rename a street near Garcia’s childhood home in the Excelsior District.
Up next, the first-ever vinyl edition of “Not for Kids Only,” the 1993 children’s album Garcia recorded with David Grisman, will debut on Nov. 21 with remastered tracks, outtakes and alternate cuts.
“My dad’s legacy lives on through moments of joy, laughter, and connection,” Trixie Garcia said, adding that the new game “is a whimsical way for fans to keep that spirit alive wherever the road may lead.”
