Do you know Dasha?
Crayola is counting on it. The company is looking to reunite a former Linden Elementary School student with the artwork she created – in 1996.
About 28 years ago, an Oak Ridge third grader named Dasha crafted a piece of art titled “Jade the Bird Ate Two Dozen Shrimp” as part of Crayola’s Dream Makers program, according to a news release. The Dream Makers program ran from 1984 to 2013 to encourage art experiences in the classroom, according to the Crayola website.
It selected pieces to display in galleries around the U.S. during that time, and eventually Crayola became the owners of a massive collection of children’s artwork. Since then, Dasha’s creation and others have been kept at Crayola’s company headquarters.
Her artwork is one piece of many Crayola is working to return to original creators across the country through its Campaign for Creativity, which aims to inspire children’s creativity.
As part of Crayola’s search for Dasha, “Jade the Bird Ate Two Dozen Shrimp” recently was featured on a billboard in New York City’s Times Square.
As of Wednesday, July 17, she hadn’t been found, a Crayola spokesperson told The Oak Ridger by email. Dasha would now be in her mid 30s.
