Dragon Ball Super official artist Toyotarou pays a touching tribute to legendary Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama in his new Gohan Beast artwork, describing the piece as “like Toriyama-sensei wanted it to be shown.”
The latest V Jump Super-Sized July Edition revealed a new comment from Dragon Ball Super artist Toyotarou regarding his latest Gohan Beast artwork, which can be seen below. As translated by @peraperayume on X (formerly Twitter), Toyotarou said, “Since there were reasons for the manga version of the Cell Max battle to have — different to the movie — no ‘Gohan Beast Smiling Scene,’ I could now draw this fearless smile moment here. And surely, it looks cool when Gohan snaps! So, regarding Gohan in the ‘Super Hero‘ arc: As I had enough room to use more pages in the manga, I could draw the change of Gohan’s mental state even more intensely like Toriyama-sensei wanted it to be shown. I’d be happy if that part catches your attention.”

Dragon Ball Super artist Toyotarou presents his entry for Dragon Ball’s 40th Anniversary Gallery — a dynamic car chase scene featuring a classic duo.
The new Gohan Beast artwork was part of the Dragon Ball Super Interval Special — a new serialized column released by Toyotarou as the manga remains on indefinite hiatus. The latest edition is officially described: “Son Gohan (Beast), one of the stars of the ‘SUPER HERO’ Arc, has been specially drawn for us by Toyotarou! This special corner features a deep dive into the Dragon Ball Super manga! The theme for Part 2 is ‘master and disciple!’ Revisit the history of Goku’s training with his successive masters, as well as the development of the master-disciple relationship between Piccolo and Gohan!”
Gohan Beast impressed fans not only in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, which grossed over $100 million worldwide, but also in the final chapters of the Super manga before its hiatus. The anticipation for Gohan’s new form was on display in the fan reaction when Super Chapter 102 stalled the fight against Goku. This was before the official fight impressed, with Gohan putting up a strong performance against Ultra Instinct Goku.
