Forget posters, get fine art prints at the Cleveland Museum of Art April 26-28
CLEVELAND, Ohio –The Print Club of Cleveland is holding its annual Fine Print Fair from April 26-28 at the Cleveland Museum of Art.
“Fine art prints are not to be confused with mass-produced posters of a popstar or quarterback, which roll off the presses by the tens of thousands,” says Phil Canuto, a spokesperson for the Print Club. “A few dozen might be printed, not a few thousand. Art prints are painstakingly crafted by the hand of the artist using a variety of materials, such as a carved woodblock or carefully etched metal plate.”
A wide range of styles, sizes, printmaking methods, and price points will be part of the Fine Print Fair collections.
“Prints are often a medium where artists think experimentally and even sometimes do more innovative things than they would in painting,” explains Britany Salsbury, one of the museum’s curators of prints and drawings.
“The prints on view and for sale at the Print Club’s Fine Print Fair are each original works of art,” she says. “Although they’re typically printed in multiple copies, they’re made using a block, plate, or stone designed by an artist, who thinks creatively about what they might be able to accomplish using the specific technique that they choose.”
Fifteen fine print dealers from around the country will offer a wide variety of works to appeal to seasoned or new collectors. Shoppers will learn about works on paper through demonstrations throughout the weekend.
“The Fine Print Fair offers an opportunity for art lovers to start building a print collection, enhance an existing collection, and learn about works on paper,” says Emily Peters, curator of prints and drawings.
The Fine Print Fair is the Print Club of Cleveland’s annual benefit for the CMA’s print collection, with the mission of promoting prints and print collecting. The fair, which is free and open to the public, takes place in the atrium.
