After Sydney Sweeney played a version of Spider-Woman in Madame Web, some fans may be wondering who she might play if she ends up joining the DCU. One fan even went so far as to craft some new artwork of Sweeney in the role of Black Canary.
Shared by @riyagraphisme on Instagram, the artwork was conceived as concept art of how Sweeney might appear as the DCU’s Black Canary. As of now, it hasn’t been announced if Black Canary will be a part of any upcoming DCU projects, but it may just be a matter of time before the character shows up. Sydney Sweeney has offered a response to recent rumors about co-starring in a new film with Johnny Depp.
Black Canary appeared in the DCEU with Jurnee Smollett in the role. While some DCEU actors are reprising their same roles in the DCU, not all of them will, so Smollett may or may not return as the character. Previously, Black Canary was played by Rachel Skarsten in the Birds of Prey television series, and by Alaina Huffman in the prequel series Smallville. In the Arrowverse, different versions of Black Canary were played by Katie Cassidy and Caity Lotz.
What Is Sydney Sweeney’s Future in the Genre?
As for Sweeney’s future in superhero movies, she has teased that she’d be open to returning as Spider-Woman, though that may not be very likely, given how Madame Web underperformed. Given Sweeney’s popularity, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see her land a different role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the DCU, many fans are hoping to see her get involved in one way or another, with another recent piece of fan art imagining Sweeney as Power Girl.

Meanwhile, Sweeney is also still working on an upcoming Barbarella reboot. In addition to serving as a producer, Sweeney will also be starring in the titular role. She recently confirmed that the project, which is rumored to be directed by Edgar Wright, is still in the works. She also explained why she really loves the character.
“I mean, Barbarella is just such a fun character to explore,” Sweeney said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “She really just embraces her femininity and her sexuality, and I love that. She uses sex as a weapon, and I think it’s just such an interesting way into a sci-fi world, and I’ve always wanted to do sci-fi, so, we’ll see what happens.”
Madame Web is going to release on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD on April 30.
