New artwork ‘adds a little bit of joy’ to railway station

January 20, 2025 One Min Read

Two murals unveiled in the underpass at Bedminster station aim to reflect “the vibrant, evolving character of the neighbourhood”.

The work has been painted by Bristol artists Lucas Antics and Paul Monsters in collaboration with Upfest and Severnside Community Rail Partnership.

Green Party councillors Ed Plowden and Lisa Snowden helped secure funding from Bristol City Council’s Community Infrastructure Levy and GWR.

The previous artwork created by pupils of Victoria Park Primary School has returned to the nearby school where it will be showcased on the grounds.

Alex Lucas of Lucas Antics said: “I’ve loved working in Bedminster for the last couple of weeks.

“The underpass is a space that people use every day so being able to brighten it up with a mural that reflects both the history and the future of this community is an incredible opportunity.”

Lucas added: “The brief called for an artwork that would create a welcoming and vibrant gateway to Bedminster, and we’ve included local wildlife, familiar landmarks and the spirit of togetherness in our designs.

“I hope our work adds a little bit of joy and inspiration to everyone who comes through here.”
