Another Banksy animal artwork is vandalised as Chelsea elephant is defaced with stripes – after the rhino was ruined and the wolf on a south London satellite dish disappeared within hours

Another of the nine Banksy animal artworks to appear in London in recent days has been defaced – after one was ruined and another disappeared. 

The mural – which depicts two elephants poking their head out of white windows – popped up in Chelsea in London a week ago but has already been defaced with grey stripes.

Located on Edith Grove, the painting marked the second of nine animal-themed artworks to appear in the capital by the elusive artist.  

It comes after Banksy’s rhino mural in Charlton was also destroyed with spray paint on Monday, while the artist’s lone wolf on a satellite dish in Peckham mysteriously disappeared. 

Resident Chiara Burrell, 20, noticed the elephants had been defaced today and said she felt ‘upset’ that someone ruined the work. 

‘When it was in it’s original state I thought it was really cool. Just days later I went back ands saw the white lines,’ she said. ‘I’m shocked and upset that someone has vandalised it to be honest.

‘I saw it from afar and I went closer and there were some people looking at it a bit funny and I started second guessing whether it was always there.

‘I think it’s vandalism but I’m not sure.’

It comes days after a silver Nissan Micra which formed part of the new rhino Banksy piece was removed – after the mural was defaced within just seven hours of being unveiled.

The artwork featured a rhino mounting the car with a traffic cone on its bonnet but was ruined with a white spray paint tag on Monday. 

Just before that, Banksy’s fourth animal artwork of a lone wolf on a satellite dish mysteriously vanished from its spot in Peckham last week. 

Footage emerged showing the shocking moment the artwork was dismantled before being carried away. 

A group of hooded men wearing facemasks and gloves were spotted scaling the building, removing the satellite dish, and walking off. 

A spokesperson for Banksy previously said the artist was neither connected to nor endorsed the theft of the wolf artwork and that they had ‘no knowledge as to the dish’s current whereabouts’. 

Banky unveiled the ninth – and seemingly last – mural depicting a gorilla at London Zoo on Tuesday as the artist’s run of animal-themed paintings continued.

Murals by the artist have popped up around London over the last few days, with one new piece having appeared every day from August 5 until August 13. 

Banksy’s first piece was a goat perched on top of a wall and has been followed by silhouettes of elephants, monkeys, a wolf, pelicans, and a cat, all of which have popped up in various locations across London.

The sixth piece, a stretching cat on an empty, distressed advertising hoarding, was removed from its location in north-west London hours after it was unveiled on Saturday.

Crowds booed as the piece in Cricklewood was dismantled by three men who said they were ‘hired’ by a ‘contracting company’ to take down the billboard for safety reasons.

The fifth piece to be unveiled was on Bonners Fish Bar in Walthamstow, east London, and shows a pelican stooping to scoop up a fish on the takeaway’s sign, while another is tossing one in the air.
