Inside Worcester Society of Artists’ 77th Annual Exhibition
Members of Worcester Society of Artists have marked yet another milestone this morning (Saturday) with the grand opening of its 77th Annual Exhibition at the City Art Gallery.
From city centre landscapes and pets to abstract scenes, the exhibition showcases individual artist works from the Worcester Society of Artists, without adhering to a set theme or criteria, allowing members to be fully expressive and creative.

Christine Phillips, chairperson of Worcester Society of Artists, said: “It looks amazing when you walk in here.
“The staff is so brilliant at curating these exhibitions that it just knocks you off your feet.

“For months, you’ve been working away in your own little kitchen or studio, and suddenly you have to work on the walls in the Worcester Art Gallery, it is just awesome.
“So few art societies get the chance to do this.
“It is a good turnout today as well.”

The exhibition was officially opened by the City’s Deputy Mayor, Tor Pingree, at 11am, who selected Toby Jeffery’s Various Amounts of Things That Could Be Birds as her favourite piece.
The councillor was also in attendance to present the prestigious Peter Spicer Award – an accolade in memory of a member of the group, Mr Spicer, which celebrates artists for their innovation.

Robert Webster was presented with the award for the second year running.
The exhibition, which runs until the end of the year, features a diverse range of styles and genres from both professional and amateur artists (including a Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year Heat Finalist).
Many of the works are available for sale.
Worcester Society of Artists was first founded in 1947 under the name The Visual Arts Group the Society as part of the Society for the Advancement of Music and Arts (SAMA).
In 1965, the group broke away from SAMA to form its own independent society under its own constitution under the name of Worcester Society of Artists.
The group runs meetings every Monday and is accepting new members.
