Loch Lomond landscape painting up for auction
A fine landscape of Loch Lomond and works from the estate of husband-and-wife artists who lived in Cardross feature in an auction in Glasgow this month.
Great Western Auctions Ltd’s Summer Two Day Fine Art and Antiques Auction features 348 lots.
And they include Loch Lomond by William Currie, a 19th-century painter who was known for his landscapes and seascapes but was beset by illness and poverty – many of his paintings were shown at The Royal Scottish Academy.
With an estimate of £600 to £1,000 and dated 1866, it is 70 x 90.5cm.
Works from the estate of Cardross residents James Spence and Anda Paterson (both RSW RGI) are included in the sale.
Boats, Albufeira by Spence (1929-2016) is a 23.5 x 62.5cm watercolour and has an estimate of £150 to £300.
The Geese Of Ferrugudo (2019) by Paterson (1935-2020) is mixed media on paper, 30.5 x 76cm with an estimate of £300 to £600.
And Studies Of Algarve – Heads And Tails, a 75 x 65cm pencil and chalks triptych by the same artist, has an estimate of £400 to £800.
A 60cm x 68 watercolour on handmade paper by former Cove resident Christine McArthur RGI RSW, A is for Asparagus has an estimate of £200 to £400.
And two acrylics by former Helensburgh Art Club member Enid Foote Watts are in the sale.
Houses Roussillon, 41.5 x 39cm, has an estimate of £200 to £300.
And Three Cypress Trees, 20.5 x 20.5cm, has an estimate of £50 to £100.
The auction, which also includes jewellery, watches, coins, prints and sculpture, is on June 15 from 10am.
