Self-taught Harris featured artist at WesBanco | News, Sports, Jobs
PARKERSBURG – The art of a self-taught artist is on display this month in the lobby of WesBanco on Market Street.
Denise Harris is among many self-taught artists who has drawn and painted all her life and cannot remember when it wasn’t important to her. She works mainly in acrylics, but also with oils, and enjoys pencil sketching and colored pencils.
“My work includes still life, figurative pieces and scenes inspired by nature,” Harris said. “I enjoy the challenge of applying color to create depth and richness in each painting.”
Harris previously exhibited at WesBanco in 2020 and has done art exhibits at the Parkersburg Art Center, the Grand Central Mall and most recently at Artsbridge.
Some of Harris’ work is decorative while others are more thought-provoking or just for fun.
“The blank canvas can be intimidating, but after a few brush strokes, I’m off and running,” Harris said.
When she’s working, Harris likes the feel of being inside of the picture and builds a little world with it. She hopes the viewers will find their own joy in each painting.
The Denise Harris art exhibit will be on display in the lobby at WesBanco Bank, 415 Market St., Parkersburg, throughout June during regular business hours of 9-3 p.m. Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.
