A painting by Tullamore artist David Fox has been selected to be exhibited at this year’s Ranelagh Arts Festival next week.

The festival will and exhibition will launch on Thursday, May 9 in Ranelagh Arts Centre and will run until Sunday, June 9.

‘Blackpitts Lane’ by David Fox

David said that he was “absolutely delighted” that his painting, ‘’Blackpitts Lane’, was chosen to be displayed at the festival.

“The exhibition was selected by James Hanley RHA, and artists Melissa O Donnell and Aoife Nolan, so I’m sure to have my work displayed amongst a great line-up of artists.”

He added that the piece is a recent work that depicts a Dublin city back alley with a graffiti-lined construction wall in the foreground. “I stumbled across the area of Blackpitts Lane one day and I was immediately drawn to the vibrancy of the colours and the playfulness of the subject matter and tagging, which is a really brilliant piece of street art.” Tagging is the writing of a nickname or mark on a surface by a graffiti artist.

David completed the painting last week and started working on it at the start of April.

David is also working towards a solo exhibition later this year at Aras Inis Gluaire in Co. Mayo with a body of new and recent graffiti/street art themed work. Some of his work will be on show at the exhibition, ‘Pink is my colour’, at the Olivier Cornet Gallery in Dublin which will run from June 9 to July 31. It’s a group show featuring work by artists invited by Olivier Cornet or artists his gallery represents or works with on a regular basis and is part of the Bloomsday Festival 2024’s programme.

David’s art was recently included in ‘Pallas for Palestine,’ a fundraising exhibition organised by his studio group of artists at Pallas Projects.
