Swaledale artists open studios to visitors

May 1, 2024 4 Mins Read

An invitation to experience the creative work and processes of four Swaledale’s artists up close and personal has gone out.

As part of the county-wide North Yorkshire Open Studios event, Reeth-based Jane Ellis, Rachel Antill and Michael Kusz, and Marrick-based Martin Lever will be opening the doors to their studios for visitors for two weekends next month.

With artwork inspired by the magic of Swaledale and beyond, the quartet of artists are known for their contrasting styles and mediums, with their works collected in the UK and around the world.

A spokesperson from North Yorkshire Open Studios said: “A visit to the studios promises to be an eclectic, inspirational and rewarding day out for all art lovers and collectors – who can browse original artworks and sculptures, limited edition prints and much more.

“All four artists agree on why anyone should visit. To spend a little time away from the fast-paced world we live in, to surround yourself with community creativity, to experience beautiful inspirational images and objects in the flesh, and not on your phone, is therapy for the soul.

“Interacting with art is proven to have a positive effect physically and psychologically, releasing dopamine into the brain, uplifting the spirits, and giving people a heightened sense of self.”

The studios will be open 10am to 5pm on June 1 and 2 and 8 and 9.
