Preparatory work begins in Hyndburn as part of £55m East Lancashire investment

Preparatory work is getting underway in Hyndburn, as part of a £55 million programme of investment across East Lancashire.

From the week commencing 11 May, contractors working on behalf of Lancashire County Council will establish a temporary site compound, office and welfare facilities in the park area on Park Road, ahead of improvement works in the Countess Street area of Accrington.

The main construction work is not starting at this stage and will follow at a later date.

The work forms part of Lancashire County Council’s Safer, Greener and Healthier Streets programme, which aims to improve everyday life by making it easier and safer for people to get around, supporting healthier travel choices and local communities.

The project will be delivered in phases to help minimise disruption, with local residents kept informed as work progresses.

County Councillor Warren Goldsworthy, cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said:

“Residents in Accrington will begin to see activity on site as we prepare for improvements in the Countess Street area.

“By taking a phased approach, we can get everything in place and minimise disruption, while preparing for improvements that will make streets safer and easier to use for local people.”

The Safer, Greener and Healthier Streets programme is one of three connected projects being delivered through Levelling Up East Lancashire.
