Artists stage open air exhibition in Malton’s Castle Gardens

April 8, 2026 2 Mins Read

Staged by You will be CIC, the paintings are mounted against the backdrop of veteran trees in the Garden.

The You will be CIC Ryedale Gateway Project Trail will extend through Malton and Norton and is funded by Mayor of York & North Yorkshire, David Skaith, and the combined authority.

Piers Edsall from You will be CIC said: “It’s great to be able to expand on our previous projects and collaborate with the Castle Garden and other partners in Malton and Norton to create more accessible culture for the community. There’s a whole host more to come so keep an eye out for new artworks!”

Di Keal from the Malton Castle Garden management committee said: “We are delighted to see the artworks as a new feature in the Castle Garden. With everything coming alive in the Spring weather the Garden is looking particularly lovely at the moment and the paintings and sculpture look great mounted against the backdrop of some of our veteran trees.

“The art compliments the Garden really well and has added a new attraction for our visitors to enjoy when they are spending time in this lovely green space in the heart of Malton and Norton.

“For anyone who hasn’t visited us before, we are keen to make the Castle Garden a bit less of a ‘secret’ and encourage more local people as well as visitors to come and see what we have to offer.”

Di added: “The Castle Garden is behind the steel gates – featuring leaf shapes – off Orchard Field and can also be accessed from Castlegate via a wooden door leading to steps behind the newly installed road barrier, which will soon be brightened up with flower baskets, courtesy of North Yorkshire Council and Malton in Bloom.

“Our ever popular Forest School is due to start again shortly and the committee has plans for new volunteering opportunities in the Garden, which will be advertised locally.”
