Artists open their studio doors to public across North Yorkshire

Visitors can meet artists, see work in progress, and even take home original pieces — from paintings and prints to ceramics and sculptures — perfect for a unique Christmas gift.

The event will feature a diverse range of styles, media and settings, from an artists’ community tucked away in a York church loft to studios with panoramic views across the Yorkshire Dales and Moors.

Garth Bayley, project manager at NYOS and one of the participating artists, said: “Winter Open Studios offers a rare opportunity to see inside working studios and understand how art is made across North Yorkshire.

“It’s a chance to meet the artists, explore a wide range of practices, and find something original — whether that’s a piece of work or simply a new perspective.”

Among those taking part are:

• Andrew Moodie, from Harrogate, whose expressive landscapes are created using soft pastels and wet media in his converted garage studio.

• Cath Little, a ceramicist from Loftus, known for her vibrant raku ware. Visitors can even pre-book to decorate and fire their own pot.

• Michael Kusz of Graculus Sculptures in Reeth, who transforms recycled copper and old tools into quirky, characterful sculptures inspired by his industrial Yorkshire roots.

Winter Open Studios marks the final event in NYOS’s 2025 programme, celebrating the county’s thriving creative community and encouraging visitors to discover the artistic talent hidden in villages, towns, and moorland hamlets across the region.
